Cathedral of St Joseph: Granite Bases and Guadalupe Mosaic

Work continues at the Cathedral of St Joseph with the installation of the granite bases and the completion of the Our Lady of Guadalupe mosaic in the south transept. The mosaic — fabricated in the Italian tradition, with hand-cut tesserae and a richness of tone that reproduces photography cannot convey — is now complete and visible from across the nave.

The granite bases anchor the colonnade and establish the material register for the lower half of the interior: stone below, plaster and gold above.
