Cathedral of St Joseph: Limestone Veneer, Doric Columns, First Mosaics

At the Cathedral of St Joseph in Jefferson City, limestone veneer and Doric column work are in place throughout the nave, establishing the material base that the upper portions of the interior will read against. The first mosaics — fabricated in Italy and shipped to Jefferson City — have been installed in their intended positions.

Seeing the first mosaic panel in place is always a significant moment in a project of this scale. The color and luminosity that appears in studio samples becomes something entirely different when the light of the building is behind it.
